| Looking back to 2011, when I became an Apple Distinguished Educator, I have developed a deep appreciation for Apple’s vision of establishing the ADE program. Meeting other like minded educators in Vancouver was the best learning moment I experienced; transforming my entire school community. In 1984, I traveled to Cape Canaveral and was fortunate to see the Challenger Space shuttle launch. Seeing a shuttle take flight was inspiring. Similarly, the experience in Vancouver was truly transforming. A chance to collaborate with fellow Canadian ADE’s built a solid foundation of advocacy and authorship as ambassadors of the Apple brand. Using Apple solutions enriches students’ learning and improves student success. |
Mobile learning collaboration can inform curiosity and celebrate our students work.
I present, position and align with teachers at conferences, workshops and events. By extending my reach as an advocate and ambassador, within the Peel District School Board and beyond, I empower teachers to connect iOS and other Apple solutions to their students’ successes.
As an Apple Distinguished Educator I am often asked to support board wide events, and 8 workshops so far this school year, collaborating with other teachers. At York University's ABEL conference, I presented a session on Nearpod iOS as part of a SAMR classroom.
Peel also held it’s first “Teaching and Learning in a Digital World” conference in July/13 with over 700 attendees featuring Dr. Ruben Puentedura,Ph.D. I facilitated a workshop, “Remixing and Mastering iOS and BYOD Collaboration.” I presented to other PDSB teachers at two workshops in the Fall of 2013 on how iMovie and Coaches eye could be used to connect learning to assessment with mobile technology.

iMovie Rubrics can be transformative!
I constantly work with students on Board wide events using iOS, Final CutX and Motion. My students and I work as mobile film studio for Peel event promos in 2014 such as:
- Peel Science Animation Festival
- Peel Student Film Festival
- Peel Technical Skills Challenge
- Critical Thinking Through the Arts Conference
- OFSSA Wrestling Provincial Championships
Books Author, iTunesU and Apple Configurator are transformative SAMR model solutions in a BYOD learning community. As the first school in Peel to deploy iPad devices, I support teachers on how best to leverage iOS solutions. Using video can engage students in their learning. So I encourage you try out video in the classroom, iMovie Rubrics and Coaches Eye. I did the Voice Over with the Rode Mic so in less than 20 minutes the students had some amazing direct feedback!
