Here are some helpful videos which guide you through using Producteev. The potential is a free tool (with a paid option) for team collaboration or social task management. During the school year I work on around 15 major projects with a wide range of teachers, professionals and students. I teach because I have a passion for learning and inspiring students with transformative learning experiences. Yet, balance is hard to achieve. Email, wikis are part of the solution..... often our tech becomes the driver in how we work and we've replaced with a paper trail with disconnected bread crumbs in folders (aka email search).
When I think about technology I often think about two fairy tales...."Hansel and Gretel" and "Goldilocks" As we plan our school year ahead teachers think about technology integration.... Some options are too hot, too cold and a select few are just right. My approach towards technology in the classroom consists of :
Managing expectations. Technology which is too hot may be too complicated. Avoid it, for now. Instead seek advice and be patient.
Break some eggs. Technology which is too cold works yet there are significant gaps which cost you time. Email is not the answer. Managing email with folders, searches and tags can be a full time job. Email is over 40 years old (http://tnw.co/1oHlhao) and while it is often the first point of contact on a project it soon becomes "Abbot & Costello's Who's on First"
Choices matter. Always Consider your audience. Effective Technology that is just right aligns with the goals for the project considering the B.Y.O.D. (Bring Your Own Device) Eco-system. A blended approach works best. Email is important yet it is only one part of the puzzle. It is crucial when adopting a new digital tool time is taken to take it for a test ride and ask questions, look for Video Tutorials online.
Next steps .... Start small ... simple and remember your audience, your team and your goal. A hammer is a great tool yet if your task is to fix a faucet it might not help you be successful. Remember to ... build capacity within your team. Invite them to invest in the project first and the technology second. Remember as Nancy Duarte says, The audience is the Hero...." See this blog post for more information. Repetition is key to success ... When managing a project, consistent labels and clear communication are valuable resources. Change may be constant with technology but the structure on how the work happens does not until there is a break down in communication. | Check out either the original version or Jimmy Fallon's version. People First Projects = Producteev
I am in the process of testing Producteev to see if it will be part of a blended solution and will be making future posts on how Producteev will fit into my day to day management of complex projects. I do use a wide range of solutions already including: Evernote, Multiple Email address and calendar. The main reason I am trying Producteev out is because I need a team collaboration tool which is scalable, easy to learn and will help me track the process of projects.
What it can do ....
1. Producteev will run on multiple platforms including iOS, Android and Web
2. Forward tasks via email (Relink bread crumbs= avoiding Replicators )
3. Assign/Follow/ Labels become your virtual assistants as your track the progress of your team
4. Create a flexible workspace where a lot of the nuts and bolts can be assembled, tested and tracked. The layout invites a team to create and collaborate.
What I wish it could do...
A few wishes I have for Producteev are:
1. Calender integration (iCal/Exchange)
2. Time tracking: a way to track how much time (hours) people spend on projects
3. Assign sub tasks to different people or a way to create sub projects
3. Resource tracking: A way to manage equipment/resources/people or a way to book them and know where they are.
For more information on Producteev check out this TechCrunch Review and for more information on Producteev please visit their webiste at https://www.producteev.com/
Finally, remember to use K.I.S.S (Keep it Simple Sasquatch) on your next project and avoid the Task Master (a.k.a. Sasquatch) as you avoid the pit falls of task management. I will be making future posts on Social task management for team collaboration and artists. I invite you to check out this blog soon or follow me onTwitter.
